$5 Fridays.
Get in losers, we're saving the world (or something).
I don’t have a cute preamble today, so let’s skip the pleasantries and dive right in. I want to try a thing. A very small thing.
$5 Fridays.
The first Friday of every month I’m asking you to donate $5 to an organization I’ve picked out1.
That’s it.
In the past The Stacks community has raised so much money2 in huge community efforts. They have taken a whole lot of work and have had even bigger payoff. I love that we have done/can do that. We will do that again.
This is not that.
I don’t want to make this a huge thing. I don’t want to track it. I don’t want to make graphics. I just want this to be a thing we do, together.
If you want to give more, please do. If you’re not able to give at any point, no sweat. This is not about shame or praise. This is about doing one small good thing.
This month I picked a rent relief program run by Cempazuchitl Collective based in the Twin Cities, they are “Indigenous-led and strive to center two spirit, queer and trans Indigenous folks to create safer spaces to learn, heal, and grow with community”. They are running a rent assistance program directed at immigrant and Native American families in need.
Please let me know if you have organizations you think we should support. I am accepting all the suggestions. This is a new thing and I expect it to evolve. If you’ve got feedback — like, you think tracking makes more sense to keep you motivated, or you only want to give to certain types of organizations, or whatever — please let me know.
For more ways to support folks in Minnesota, I shared resources a couple of weeks ago.
That’s it for now. Thanks for reading this. Thanks for donating. Thanks for spreading the word. Go call your senators.
If you want more of me and my nonsense be sure to listen to The Stacks podcast every Wednesday and follow me over on Instagram for a lot more book content.

We raised $100,000 for Freedom Reads and that is the craziest thing ever. I will never get over that. Not to mention the $30K you all raised toward helping people impacted by the fires. This community is unmatched.

Thank you for being you ❤️
I love this idea so much!! ❤️❤️❤️
