The Stacks Book Club selection for August is Master Slave Husband Wife: An Epic Journey from Slavery to Freedom by Ilyon Woo. This winner of the 2024 Pulitzer Prize in biography tells the story of Ellen and William Craft, an enslaved couple who escaped from Georgia in 1848 using a clever ruse to evade capture. The book is both a love story and an epic quest comprised of three journeys, as the couple dodge authorities and friends of their enslavers. The Crafts’ inspiring and remarkable feat is considered one of history’s boldest examples of self-emancipation.

Very excited to see this as the next book club pick, as it's been on my TBR! I just finished a book that wasn't my favorite, so ready to dive into something new.
Such a good book!
