Who is ready for mess? Our pick this month is the 2020 debut novel Luster by Raven Leilani. The book tells the story of Edie, a young Black woman navigating an unfulfilling job, complicated relationships, and the chaos of life in New York City. When she begins an affair with Eric, a middle-aged white man in an open marriage, Edie’s life becomes intertwined with his family in surprising and uncomfortable ways. Luster explores themes of desire, loneliness, and self-discovery with biting humor and raw honesty, painting a vivid portrait of what it means to be young and searching for meaning. Bad choices, unlikable characters, and a whole lot to discuss, Luster is a great time!
