The Stacks Book Club selection for September is Jazz by Toni Morrison. The Pulitzer- and Nobel Prize-winning author released the novel in 1992; it’s set during the peak of the Harlem Renaissance in 1926 but flashes back to the 19th-century South. The story follows migrant couple Joe and Violet Trace, who are caught up in the murder of a young woman (Jealous Joe’s affair partner). They get obsessive, and things get messy, to say the least; all the new city chaos only adds to their stress. Jazz is Morrison’s sixth novel and the middle title of her Dantesque trilogy, between Beloved and Paradise.
