The 2025 Nonfiction Reading Guide
Who wants to read some amazing true stories? I've got just the book for you.
Here we are, the end of May aka Summer Reading Guide SZN™. And I’m back, just like everyone else, with my own foray into the guidescape. We call it the Nonfiction Reading Guide aka NRG1.
This year I have put together a list of 25 books in five categories, they range from a deep dive into World War II to personal narratives that are doing a little more than your average memoir. In addition to my own picks, I asked five readerly friends to share their nonfiction recommendations. That brings the total number of books in this year’s guide to 30.
Here is a little more about what you can expect from the NRG.
All the books I suggest have been vetted by me, these are books I love. And yes, some books were not included that maybe fit nicely into a category, because they weren’t good enough for me, and therefore you.
My goal with this guide, this year and every year, is to find you your next favorite book.
Not a single book has been featured on an episode of The Stacks. There are a few authors who I have had on the show, but not to talk about the book featured in the guide.
I will be doing a virtual meet-up to discuss the guide on Monday, May 26th, if you want in, details are below.
This guide is up now and will remain available until the end of summer — September 22nd. After that it will be gone from the internets.
You can get the 2024 Nonfiction Reading Guide in one of three ways.
With any paid subscription to Unstacked. It is yours for $5/month or you can subscribe for a year of my bookish hot takes, bonus episodes, and pop culture insights for $50.
Join The Stacks Pack on Patreon. That is a community focused around The Stacks podcast. Over there you get access to The Stacks discord and virtual book club meet ups. The Stacks Pack is where you go if you want to meet your bookish besties. It is also $5/month.
Buy a standalone version of the guide on Patreon. If you’re not interested in the rest of my shenanigans but want to get your nonfiction reading on, you can buy a stand-alone NRG for $10 on my Patreon shop.
Joining as a paid subscriber here or on Patreon is how I am able to make the Stacks free week in and week out. If you like the podcast or any work that I do, showing your support is extremely impactful. Plus, you get the NRG! Everybody wins.
Now that you know how to get it, let’s dive right in. Shall we?
