In the past, I have made gift guides for the book lovers in your life that aren’t books, and this year I was planning to do the same thing, but after the election, I just felt like I couldn’t.
An inspiring list! For those looking for orgs defending immigrants’ rights in the upper Midwest (an area with a lot of need for deportation defense representation and that gets fewer donations than border nonprofits), a few good options include National Immigrant Justice Center, The Advocates for Human Rights, Immigrant Law Center of Mn, and Mid-MN Legal Aid. For MN folks wanting to support an awesome bookstore that has done a ton for our community and has an amazing selection, Moon Palace is the best! Or Birchbark Books which is owned by Native American author Louise Erdrich and has a huge selection of work by Native authors. Thanks for doing this Tracy!
I’ve been thinking of skipping Christmas/holidays this year with things so grim. This, however, gives me a reason to support others and give back. Thank you, Traci, for being you and for your thoughtful contributions to us all. I am eternally grateful and will share this with my disgruntled friends and family. ❤️✨
Thank you so much Traci for this INCREDIBLE list which I love for so many reasons including the effort to support independent booksellers which I feel is imperative for people who love books. I'm going to limit myself to adding just one organization to make this as legible as possible. Please check out The Sogorea Te’ Land Trust which invites folks who live in the East Bay to pay Shuumi Land Tax "a small step towards acknowledging the history of genocide on this land and contributing to its healing." https://sogoreate-landtrust.org/ (p.s. You can give to this organization even if you don't live in the East Bay).
What a great way to support change while gifting! For gifting to support farming and food, adding Green Heffa Farms https://www.greenheffafarms.com , a black female owned organic herb farm, tea company, natural health brand, an educational resource, and movement.
As you can imagine, I am a big fan of this. I am perhaps the Biggest Fan, actually. Also, those graphics look like they took some time (please don't tell Rosamond and I if they didn't, we just learned how to resize photos, ok??). You are a fierce protector of things you care about, and we are lucky to have you.
Ahhh thank you. Glad you like it. Wasn’t sure if people would want this but I needed to making something that felt useful and not detached from everything else I’m feeling.

Love all of these suggestions. Thank you so much!
I second this! Will also add the International Institute of MN to the list. Birchbark is the best!

I hope it makes all of us grinches feel a little more holiday cheer!
I love this! Thank you so much for doing it.

Thank you for this addition. I wish I had more time to include more issues, so I love you bringing something additional to the table.

Thanks Mel, I'm glad you like it. I was hoping you would! I will keep it hush hush on how long this all took. I don't want to guilt or shame anyone.
This is awesome! Reposting. The Share button pops up the latest Read to Know basis instead of this post, BTW.
That must be a substack glitch? I think. I have no clue.
This is my all time favorite gift guide!! You have an amazing brain! Love this idea for the gift giving season too!
Thanks so much, glad you like it!
I love this guide! Thanks for putting together something so thoughtful.
