I loved discovering authors and new favorite books thanks to the episodes, the conversations were so interesting they made me want to pick the book up : Patrick Radden Keefe, Amanda Montell, Clint Smith, Ari Shapiro, just to name a few !! I would have never heard of them without you, and for that, I am grateful !

The Stacks is literally my fave. Even if it's a book I have zero interest in and know I won't read I love the conversation around it. This is the podcast that taught me that nonfiction doesn't have to be boring history books-- they can actually be entertaining and feed my craving for salacious, petty, gritty words.

My fave thing about this podcast is that it is CONSISTENT. Every single damn Wednesday from the day I subbed to THIS VERY WEEK, Traci delivers. I like that a LOT. If I am IN, I am IN and people who know me know I have a listening schedule. I know who pubs on what day and my day runs around what's new. Stop effing with my schedule (says the podcast host that just doesn't record an episode if she doesn't feel like it... I DIGRESS).

Anyhoozle, Happy Anniversary to The Stacks Podcast!

I really appreciated these questions and answers. I will be thinking about restaurants as theatre productions for quite some time...and I've always wondered how you pick authors for the unabridged interviews now I know. Happy (belated) Stacks anniversary!

So glad to weasel my restaurants are performance theory into your brain.

Great AMA! Congrats on 7 years. I think your hyper-criticality is what makes you such a good interviewer. Between you and Sara, I have been trying to engage with works deeper this year and I have really liked flexing this muscle.

Thank you so much for explaining your perspective on being hypercritical. My partner is similar in that regard, and sometimes my oversensitive self feels like saying, "Damn, well sorry you didn't like it!" But the way you put it makes so much sense, and I feel like I understand where he is coming from now.

And of course, thank you for everything you do. Love the podcast (even though it makes me add books to my TBR list faster than I can read them!) and love the newsletter. Congratulations on 7 years and I look forward to more!! Keep up the great work.

Hahaha it’s never about the thing with us hypercritical people. I swear. We’re just obsessive 🤣🤣🤣.

Iiiiiii’m sorry — only TWO good songs in Les Mis?!?! This feels like Eponine erasure since every song she’s on is perfect. But Les Mis was my gateway musical when I discovered it at 6 years old and learned every word to the entire symphonic recording, so I have a soft spot for it. Plus, I’m a sucker for any show where I get to sit in awe of Ramin Karimloo, Norm Lewis, or Colin Wilkinson (yes, I’m a nerd who will sit and watch clips of various performances).

No one will convince me that show is good. You can like a thing because you were six, I have many many things like that, but it doesn't make them good, lol!

How dare you imply that my taste at 6 years old was anything other than immaculate.

Woohoo! I made it to the end — I mean that was never a question, I was always going to read it all — but glad I got to it straight away and didn't let this sit in my inbox for weeks! Love an AMA and finding out more about you and your work. What are the two good songs from Les Mis? I want to see if they're my top two songs. 👀

You did it. I feel like every person who makes it to the end deserves an ice cream cone.

The songs are obviously: I Dreamed a Dream and the end of act one medley. And let me be honest. I don’t really like any of the music but those songs are listenable.

Okay, so my number one fave is One Day More, the aforementioned end of Act I medley. I literally have a playlist called One Song More which is all my fave renditions of it. I’m not sure on my second fave to be honest…I do like the opening of Act II and Bring Him Home…but yeah I Dreamed A Dream is up there. But this is too much Les Mis chat for someone who doesn’t like it. 🤣 (Despite that I knew our tastes would be somewhat aligned. 😌)

You’re right. I’m tapped out on Les Mis. It’s just a big no for me. Even One Day More it’s a good song but I don’t like or listen to it. I just recognize it’s good.
